What's Old is New on Independence High Sidelines

by Jeff Fisher
North Carolina High School Football Huddle

Bill Geiler is back at the helm of the Independence Patriots.

Geiler has been named as the new head coach of the Patriots. It's the second time that Geiler has replaced former head coach Tom Knotts, who left earlier this year to take the head coaching position at Dutch Fork High in South Carolina. In 2004, when Knotts went to Duke, Geiler led the Patriots to a perfect 15-0 season and a 4AA state title.

After spending a year as the head coach at Porter Ridge High in 2005, Geiler returned to Independence to serve as Knotts' defensive coordinator for the past three seasons.

“Coach Geiler is a natural fit for our academic and athletic programs," said Mark Bosco, Independence principal on the school's website. "He knows our current and future community and is committed to the school – we are very excited.”
