North Carolina High School Football Playoff Pairings
By Jeff Fisher
The High School Football Huddle
The road to eight North Carolina high school football championships begins this weekend as 256 teams begin post-season play. In Class 4-AA, Independence is looking to return to its perch atop the classification. The Patriots are hoping to make it to their 10th state title game in a row and nab their ninth title during that stretch. Last year, Independence had its streak of eight straight titles snapped.
Meanwhile, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association has changed three championship games slated for Kenan Stadium on the campus of the University of North Carolina to avoid conflicts with men's and women's basketball games and winter graduation. The 4-AA, 4-A and 2-A finals were set for December 13th, but now only the 4-A game will be played on the 13th at 11 A.M. The 4-AA game has been moved to Sunday, December 14th at 3 P.M., while the 2-A game will be played on Friday, December 12th at 7:30 P.M.

North Carolina Unbeaten Showdown independence vs. Butler
By Jeff Fisher
The High School Football Huddle
It will be #1 vs. #2 Friday night when Independence squares off with Butler for regular season bragging rights in North Carolina and the Southwestern 4A championship. Independence will be looking for revenge from last year's regular season finale when Butler handed the Patriots its third loss of the season. Independence did crank things up after that, beating Butler 20-7 in the second round of the playoffs, and making it to the school's ninth straight state championship game. The Patriots lost in the title game snapping the schools run of eight straight championships.
