Two-Time Defending State Champ Butler Looking for a New Football Coach

After back-to-back perfect seasons and two state championships, Butler's Mike Newsome is changing schools.

Newsome has accepted the head coaching position at A.L. Brown.  Newsome takes over for Ron Massey, who resigned at the end of last season.

Newsome became Butler's head coach in 2003.

Shelby High's Chris Norman Resigns as Football Coach

After 13 very successful years at the helm of the Shelby High School football program, Chris Norman has announced his retirement.

Norman, who took over the program in 1998, amassed a record of 147-39-1 with three state titles.  In addition to state titles in 1998, 2005 and 2006, Norman let the school to runner-up finishes in 2004 and 2007.

The Shelby Star reports that Norman is very proud of his accomplishments at his alma mater.

North Carolina Tweaks the Start of 2011 High School Football Season

High school football practice will begin a day earlier this year in the Tar Heel State.

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association has agreed to move the start date for practice from August 1st to July 30th.  Under the new schedule, players will only wear helmets on the first two days; shoulder pads will be added on day three; and then full contact will be allowed on day five.
